Big Black Hole in Florida Wing

Black HoleBlack Hole

By Lt Col Doug Johnson

I deleted most of the sad history because it depresses me to read what blind, unharnessed ambition has done to an organization that I love as deeply, if not as blindly, as Howard Gelbman.

Some of my story needs to be told. As you may know, I served on the Florida wing staff for about five years.

While I was there I received confidential briefings on the use of the “black hole” as a de-motivator–a method to exhaust the patience of someone that you wanted to be rid of so that they finally dropped out and went away.

I have subsequently seen these tactics applied against me personally by no less a player than the infamous Maj Gen Rick Bowling who now has my email address blocked because of all the inconvenient information I was providing him.

That’s really funny, because I was his friend while I was attacking General Bergman.

Whether Pineda learned the technique from Maj Gen Bowling, or Maj Gen Bowling learned it from Maj Gen Pineda, it has its roots in Florida Wing.

I earned my Gill Robb Wilson Award about the same time Lt Col Skip Munger did, and like Skip, mine has never been awarded.

The Wing excuse in my case was that the Paul Garber Award that I earned two years before applying for the Wilson Award had never been awarded–Classic “Black Hole” technology.

It was during the discussion of these facts that I told Maj Gen Pineda that he lacked integrity: a tactical mistake that got my just renewed membership revoked.

I have since made several efforts to rejoin; at least three of them have resulted in the squadron commander who accepted my application being relieved of command.

I finally ascertained that my personnel file at National is “black-flagged” and I can’t rejoin.

When I confronted Susie Parker at National HQ with this information and asked her what procedure to follow, she refused to confirm or deny my information, but told me that the procedure entailed removal of the black flag by the officer that imposed the ban.

When I explained that officer himself was no longer a member of CAP, she said that I have to have permission of my wing Commander.

That Florida wing commander is Col Moersch and well schooled in the Black Hole technique. And he doesn’t like me because I talk to you.

Lots of documents, it seems, have been “black-holed” at Florida Wing HQ. I had to get a major award reissued directly from National Headquarters, since no one knew where my original went.
