A decade ago, the United States Department of Defense inaugurated a UFO investigation program, budgeted at $22 million. It was called AATIP, for Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, but the New York Times refers to it as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. Its purpose was to investigate flying foreign weapon threats, either ones that currently exist now or that might be developed in the next 40 years. Senators Harry Reid of Nevada and Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, co-sponsored the legislation for this program, which was primarily executed through a contract with Bigelow Aerospace.
