Attn AuxBeacon Staff,
I believe that Congress, the CAP membership and your readers would benefit from understanding how the current CAP National Historian maneuvered his way from non-member status on October 31st 2011 to the rank of CAP Colonel and NHQ Historian in a short period of time.
Over a period of several years and within exclusive CAP circles, Col Blazich denigrated Richard Greenwood, Todd Engleman, Len Blascovich, Phil Saleet, Roger Thomas, Ray Lyon, Charles Wiest, Gregory Weidenfeld and Jim Shaw as “dumbass rednecks” and “fat old farts trying to cover themselves with decorations”.
According to Col Blazich’s emails, his National Historian of the Year Award for 2011 was fixed. He had only been in CAP for two months in 2011. He got the award “fixed” by exchanging copies of the Earle Johnson papers with the CAP National Historian (at that time), Col Len Blascovich. He told Col Blascovich that he had the only known copies. However, this collection was not owned, nor held by Col Blazich. These papers were publicly accessible and copyrighted at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. This will be addressed in a separate analysis on AuxBeacon.
The mass exodus from Civil Air Patrol over recent fraud, waste and abuse findings has left the organization with few quality officers. Col Frank Blazich is just one example of many of what is wrong with CAP today.
In March 2018, when Blazich stepped down as the CAP National Historian, CAP Maj Gen Mark Smith cited “Blazich’s many accomplishments during this period (that) involved hundreds of man hours” and “contributions unrivaled by any other national historian.” He works as a military curator with the Smithsonian Institution in the nation’s capital, and will remain active in CAP.
Blazich engaged in reckless professional misconduct that seriously undermined the fairness of the CAP regulations. His “unrivaled” tactics ranged from misleading the CAP Board of Governors to outright lying and tacitly acquiescing or actively participating in the presentation of false evidence to ruin members to advance his career in the CAP.

Subj: TTU-21 photos
My horoscope said to not make any big decisions today, so I won’t do anything of yet. Anyone who touts their “valor” [see Greenwood Engelman Silver Medal of Valor Fraud] by putting out a fire has serious credibility/personal image problems. For that matter, they gave the medal to everyone who helped out, so it means nothing.
Frank Blazich Mon, Jul 11, 2011 at 10:31 PM
He [Todd Engelman] wants my stuff, that much is obvious. He [Todd Engelman] is also a phony as far as I am concerned, and having a valor medal for doing nothing valorous just confirms that to me. Fuck him, and he isn’t getting shit from me. I’ve been posting stuff on the CAP Facebook page you set up to try and get others to contribute…so far not so good. I slap an ugly watermark on the photos (and yes I know you can remove it if you REALLY try but I still have the originals and it will show if I have to come to that) to deter fools like him from clamoring for another medal. Even if you can’t prove anything, I have no desire to keep him around. He [Todd Engelman] can vanish and be removed to go look in the mirror and tell himself how great he looks. I’m not putting up with anyone with a medal fixation. You publish or produce; otherwise piss off in my book.
Frank Blazich Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 6:33 PM
I saw greggy [Gregory Weidenfeld] joined TeamCAP’s forum…and of course I like how people immediately rush to post their awards, haha. I still think you should say nuts to CAP officially, trademark all this older CAP history, and just sit back and let the money roll in while you share the CAP history and continue to thumb your nose at CAP. You sent me the blog of that other fellow who was kicked out of CAP and he is a nut and crank. You have taken the moral high road…now use it to continue this work. You can do more out of CAP then in it. IF (huge IF) NHQ even extends a branch to me (baring the IG investigation). I don’t know what I would do. It hinges on the opportunities. I have no desire to work with thieves and self-inflated BS artists. If there is a chance to grab the brass ring, push in real change and pull you on board, you better darn well believe it I will take it. If not, eh, I may not and just stay independent and funnel info your way.
Frank Blazich Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 10:36 PM
I keep wondering if butterball [Gregory Weidenfeld] is a more suitable nickname for him. Oye, he really is a sorry, greedy work. BTW, I can see why you left CAPtalk. Just reading more of the non history postings I can tell these people have serious issues. Arrogant bastards, the lot of them. Serious trolls if you ask me. Wonder why butterball [Gregory Weidenfeld] is just now coming around to your website? Perhaps he wants another medal or cheesy ribbon.
Frank Blazich Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 11:06 PM
It is sad to hear, but not surprising. Many organizations gentrify, and why should CAP be no difference. I did note that the bulk of the people present in the meeting were well, bulky and obese. It looks God awful image wise to see a bunch of fat old farts trying to cover themselves with decorations. Just sad all around. Carr sounds like the right fit, even if the whole thing is scripted.
I’m not in CAP, so I didn’t expect them to hand out a national historian award to a civilian. I just would be bothered if they give it to someone for my work in particular. I’ll sick my bulldog personal lawyer on them if they do and make some stink out of it because I can. I repeat myself and say build up TeamCAP, grab the copyrights, and bury the historical foundation. If they can’t beat you (they can’t) they will crawl around eventually. It is only a matter of time.
Blascovich has to die eventually.
Frank Blazich Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 10:26 AM
Subj: Uh oh
Okay. Again, I’m on the outside, I can get stuff. Tell the IGs to move their asses as they may be trying to pull me into their web of deceit and lies.
Fucking dumbass rednecks… that’s what these people strike me as. BTW, my blog’s ads are generating money now… all of $1.18. I need people to click on the ads, haha.

Subj: Something I am investigating
I would fuck [Jim] Shaw over royally. He seems to be just trying to make money off of CAP History.
Frank Blazich Mon, Aug 29, 2011 at 12:52 AM
Subj: Something I am investigating
Why do the national commanders keep Blascovich year after year? He does nothing…does he know where bodies are buried or something?
Frank Blazich Mon, Sep 5, 2011 at 9:14 PM
Subj: OH Wing Contact
We’ll see. I’m not one to force myself upon people for a position. OHWG would be easier being I am in Columbus and the state archive is there. We’ll see. Waiting to see if [Ray] Lyon writes back. Why the hell does someone like [Todd] Engelman who does nothing have all these positions. Jesus CAP is a fucked up organization. McCain should kill it.
Frank Blazich Fri, Sep 9, 2011 at 12:23 AM
They are not historians though, no matter what they may argue. No, having a PhD or an MA, or even a BA, does not make one a historian. Neither does a bunch of flim-flam powerpoint classes. Carr doesn’t know history, so I doubt he will do anything. Any BoG members who are history fans? Truth is that CAP DID NOT SINK ANY U-BOATS, yet Engleman is going to claim he is researching this via NOAA? Please, he visited a website. More “fluff” to look more impressive than he is…talk is all they are good for, fat slobs.

Subj: CAP History Website
I spoke face to face with my Wing CC urging him to tell MG Carr to disband the history track and rebuild it at a later date, because I am NO fan of these fools. I’ve debated leaving CAP for weeks now. It takes my time, and I have assholes to deal with in the history group. I swear they are only in it to build up their chicken hawk status.
Frank Blazich Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 8:02 PM
Subj: Serious chance to change out CAP history program…please read.
Ohio Wing CC will be driving with MG Carr to Washington starting Tuesday. He is willing to bend Carr’s ear about the need to can the national history group and start anew. I need to put together information (including replacement personnel) to give to my CC so he can use it to present the case to Carr to make the changes. Call me if you can, OR please do the following:
1. Need replacements for the current bunch. My thought was Greg as national historian (or maybe national curator since he is close to Maryland and the items presently)
2. Need reasons why to can all of them (Shaw, Blascovich, Engelman)
3. What SHOULD the national history program and CAP history in general try to accomplish
4. Other changes along said lines.
This is not BS, this is a chance to have someone get the message to Carr on the eve of the Legislative week.

Subj: CAP Question
[Todd] Engelman threw my name all over this slides. He emailed me crap that was useless that I did not ask for. He listed IM conversations as “discussions.” I can pull up the info if people want to see it for proof. He is a fraud and the type of person who goes around collecting ribbons. He might as well be one of those people the Stolen Valor Act was created for. If you think I like having my name associated with a non-professional, unethical amateur historian. So please, don’t for a second think I am associated with him. My boss knows I am not…Carr knows I am not.
Frank Blazich Sun, May 20, 2012 at 7:37 PM
…It [CAP] is the perfect situation for corruption…no one knows, no one cares, and the corruption will continue. The best I could offer is find audiences with people in the past who HAVE acted and make CAP quake. That means someone like Senator McCain. Way to go to him though is to have your shit wired tight, meaning sending a massive portfolio of information, facts and clear documentation to prove the corruption aspects. Would also need to send something along the lines of proving that tax dollars are wasted. Fraud, waste, and abuse no matter how small is a feather in the cap for some people…
CAP History is no track for a young person to start out in because it will trap them at the mercy of scum.
Frank Blazich Wed, Jul 18, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Get it on TV too. And yeah, just do this. “Strike while the iron is hot.”
[Redacted} is with us. Apparently the ilk are going after her something fierce for her grandfather’s papers. Fucking leeches. [Phil] Saleet will probably try something slimy this weekend for all I know.
Frank Blazich Wed, Jul 18, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Tell that ABC reporter to go at it. Seriously, drop the bomb and unleash hell. After talking with you, [Redacted], etc. I think this action must be taken now before the national board meeting. Put it at the TOP of the agenda.
The USAF has enough bad press right now with the F-22. If something else flares up, they will be more likely to slice off the bad fruit because the matter can be taken quickly and efficiently. CAP will likely back down and follow suit.
Frank Blazich Wed, Jul 18, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Double down again on things….now my wing CC is changing the tone about national historian of the year [award].
BS as I suspected. Bring these idiots to their knees.
Frank Blazich Wed, Jul 25, 2012 at 6:51 PM
Subj: NHOY…now official
Well, now that I have been brought into the “good ol’ boys” club, I’m curious to see what else they will now demand from me.
Frank Blazich Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 6:09 PM
Subj: National Historian of the Year…now official
Toad [Engleman] is a liar and a POS. The OHWG knows it. Hopefully Col [Robert] Karton, a lawyer, knows it too now, since toad made him look like a shitty commander. The irony is Toad thinks he is pulling a fast one over on me, like I don’t know what he is doing. At NB if he tries this shit in front of my fellow OHWG staffers, I’ll call him out in front of them. They will enjoy it thoroughly…
Frank Blazich Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 7:48 PM
Subj: National Historical of the Year… now official
Well, IF I become National Curator, my primary focus will be getting the documents to a suitable archive and the artifacts to the USAF Museum. The latter will entail getting the CAP exhibit back on display, albeit redesigned for factual accuracy (none of this “sank U-boats” crap)…
I paid for the OHWG Wing Staff patches out of pocket and got reimbursed. Hell, I’ve sold all but 9 at this point and the wing turned a tiny profit (around $200) on them. I want to get the CP-14 patch recreated and sell them for profit, but that will be a slow process. The wing has been slow as shit trying to copyright the image and I’m still harassing folks about that. I may just say fuck it and have a small batch made up on my own to raise funds for my work specifically. I have the image to have the patches made, so it would be something to build money I can draw directly from for my work (as opposed to my own pocket all the time).
Granted, if I became national curator, it cuts off [CAP] HF from all the items [Jim] Shaw gets/steals. That [CAP Historical Foundation (CAPHF)] organization needs to just be liquidated and a new one created that is run formally and orderly. HF is nothing but a complete shame from the start. Is it even really needed? If NHQ had a full-time historian, he/she could be the clearing house for money and artifacts working directly with the USAF and the AU library. That would be ideal…
Frank Blazich Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 6:35 PM
CAP really is full of stupid people. I’m reaching that conclusion about the bulk of the members. As it is, I have to completely rewrite the NHOY award citation. It is so badly written that I should just write it myself.
Frank Blazich Fri, Aug 3, 2012 at 8:33 AM
If I publish this as an academic and not as a CAP member, they can’t take credit for it and if they do, I can sue their fat asses.
I should have copied all the ESF and GSF war diaries, but time prohibited me from doing anything but culling for the CAP claims. As it is, I’ll probably go back and request the microfilm again to double check my work. If you have those pages I would greatly appreciate them.
Frank Blazich Sun, Aug 5, 2012 at 2:12 PM
BTW, better go stake out [Jim] Shaw’s garbage. I’m sure he is destroying or shredding artifacts as I write this.
Frank Blazich Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Subj: Lenny Response
You’ve said this for damn near two years. Shit or get off the pot. They plan to unveil their website of Jim Shaw’s lifted items next week at NB. You can either bury them or sit on it and rotate.
I don’t look forward to this awards ceremony and having to deal with any of them. I don’t consider any of them or most of CAP as historians, but call me elitist for working with people who truly are.
I’ll pick up the plaque, maybe if I am lucky get an achievement award, and that will be that. If [National History Staff] they embarrass me at the banquet, then I will bring them pain.
Frank Blazich Sun, Aug 26, 2012 at 5:28 PM
Everyone has seemingly contacted me or pushed closely to me [at the National Conference in Baltimore]. I ignored Toad [Todd Engelman] as much as possible, same with Lenny [Blascovich], who is an outright ass. Jim Shaw tried to get close to me on a number of occasions. I saw him [Jim Shaw] and Don Rowland talking one on one a bit as well. Hmm. Anyhow, I think I know who is worth working with and who isn’t. Now I need to develop job descriptions, org charts, a five year plan, etc.
Frank Blazich Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 7:24 AM
Subj: Nice guy
It seems CAP is just thoroughly rotten at the upper levels. In my own [Ohio] wing I have various people telling me about the problems.
One option I may pursue, between us, is to see if John Swain wants a “historical researcher” where I act as the go to guy for information for him. Otherwise it is best I just stay away. I’m not out to get my character attacked mercilessly by scum. I say release the SMOV of valor nonsense on toad [Todd Engelman] and just crush him.
Frank Blazich Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 7:59 AM
Subj: Nice guy
[John] Swain struck me as the one honest person in the bunch, being he goes back to the 1960s in CAP and is the point man on things. He mentioned a story or two to me about Pineda and he does not care for Don Rowland. I think he stays around as it is a paid job, but that is a thought.
My “archives” are items anyone can obtain if they look for them. I’ll probably just file the stuff away when I walk away. That’s ultimately what they want is just me to pack it in, and if corruption is all they want, I have no problem just leaving and letting them deal with it. I am not as invested in this as you have been (I’m still the lieutenant) but dealing with people like this is not my cup of tea. I tend not to interact with felons, crooks, criminals, and crooked cops in academia. CAP seems like a rogue gallery.
Frank Blazich Sun, Oct 28, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Roger [Thomas] I think is bothered because well, his day has passed. He is not/cannot keep up with the technological changes in the field, appears unable to actually go to an archive and research himself, and resorts to the old CAP method of bullying for information. While his post on facebook I agree with, if he thinks he can do nothing but bully people for information he better learn that is not how the program will operate. How he is going after [William L.] Kidney I find very distasteful.
Frank Blazich Sun, Oct 28, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Subj: Phone call
All I can do is have MG Carr kick him [Charles Wiest] in the ass if fortunate…or unleash other forces to kick him [Charles Wiest] in the ass. He won’t answer the phone when I call, so what good can I do?
