We noticed you covered the toxic culture of the Vermont Air Guard and the F-16 booty call. We are hoping you might also add coverage on the sexual assault allegations to be investigated in Wisconsin.
On Wednesday January 9th, we finally got confirmation that U.S. Air Force investigators are looking into allegations at the 115th Fighter Wing’s Security Forces Squadron. These service members police Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison.
Sometime last fall, MSgt Jay Ellis contacted US Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) after becoming aware of six incidents of sexual harassment or assault against female squadron members. These are alleged to have taken place between 2002 and 2016. None of the women in any of the alleged incidents filed formal complaints out of fear of retaliation at that time.
MSgt Ellis stated that high-ranking Air Force commanders have done little to address the allegations.
On November 13th, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Wisconsin Democrat, requested the Air Force investigate these claims.
Senator Baldwin’s office released an AFOSI letter dated December 21st stating that on November 16th MSgt Ellis was unable to release the name of any of the victims at the time. He called back later on November 28th to provide the name of one. She appears to have told The Associated Press in an interview that superior officers sexually assaulted her and her friend during a party in 2002 at a training base in Nevada as the unit was preparing to deploy to Iraq.
In no way should our alerting you to this story be slanted as critical of Sen Tammy Baldwin, she is doing much to help protect veterans from opioid addiction.
